AVATAR has appointed Mthunzi Plaatjie as its new managing director in Cape Town. AVATAR opened its offices in CT after winning the Chevron South Africa account, earlier this year.
Plaatjie obtained a diploma in integrated marketing communication from the AAA School of Advertising and also has a certificate in journalism from Varsity College. He started his career in advertising at Berry Bush BBDO, now known as Net#work BBDO, and has since worked in a range of positions from senior account management to senior marketing management, at Switch Design Group, The Agency, TBWA, MetropolitanRepublic, and Y&R.
Plaatjie also has experience in design and brand development, as he launched First Generation Brand Consultancy and most recently launched BET Networks (Black Entertainment Television), across a number of African regions.
